Our client, a leading law firm, is seeking an experienced lawyer to join its team specializing in insurance coverage and strategic litigation management.

This role differs from a traditional litigation practice. The lawyer will primarily act as a strategic advisor to insurers, particularly in complex matters involving construction, professional liability, and financial risks in Canada and the United States.

This position is particularly well suited for a lawyer who enjoys analyzing complex matters, developing strategies, negotiating, and maintaining an overall view of litigation, while collaborating with defence counsel responsible for representing clients before the courts.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

• Analyzing litigation matters and assessing legal and financial risks for insurers
• Advising clients on defence, settlement, and case management strategies
• Supervising and coordinating the work of defence counsel retained in various jurisdictions
• Providing strategic oversight of litigation matters and communicating regularly with insurers
• Participating in negotiations and mediations
• Analyzing various insurance policies and advising clients on coverage matters
• Handling insurance coverage disputes
• Developing and maintaining trusted relationships with a primarily international insurer client base

Depending on the candidate’s interests, opportunities to appear before the courts in insurance coverage matters may also be available.

Qualifications

• Member in good standing of a Canadian Bar
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in litigation, insurance law, insurance coverage, or litigation management
• Civil law and/or common law background
• Excellent command of both French and English, written and spoken
• Strong analytical, synthesis, and drafting skills
• Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
• Strong strategic judgment and excellent negotiation skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with sophisticated international clients

Direct experience in insurance coverage is considered a significant asset. However, litigators with strong experience in insurance matters or the management of complex litigation are also encouraged to apply.
