An international law firm recognized for its expertise in litigation and insurance law is seeking a Legal Assistant to join its Montreal office. The firm advises a sophisticated client base composed of insurers, corporations and organizations in complex litigation matters on both national and international levels.

The Role

As a Litigation Legal Assistant, you will support a team of three lawyers or more and play an active role in the day-to-day management of litigation matters.

You will be involved in the preparation of legal documents and proceedings, deadline management, file organization and communications with clients and various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare standard litigation proceedings and legal documents
  • Manage deadlines and litigation calendars rigorously
  • Review, format and follow up on legal documents and correspondence
  • Open, organize and maintain physical and electronic files
  • Manage communications with clients and stakeholders
  • Coordinate meetings, calls, hearings and calendar follow-ups
  • Prepare files for meetings and hearings
  • Work closely with several lawyers in a high-volume environment
  • Support the overall administrative operations of the litigation team
  • Perform various related tasks as required by the practice

Requirements

  • DEP in Secretarial Studies or DEC in Administration, Legal Studies or related field
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience as a litigation legal assistant
  • Good knowledge of legal terminology and procedural rules
  • Experience supporting multiple lawyers simultaneously
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong technological skills and ability to quickly learn new software
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a high volume of files and competing priorities
  • Professionalism, discretion and strong client service orientation
  • Team-oriented, autonomous and proactive mindset
  • Bilingualism in French and English
