A boutique law firm recognized as one of Canada’s leading tax law firms is seeking a lawyer to join its Tax Litigation team in Montreal. The firm advises a sophisticated client base including multinational corporations, private companies, corporate groups and high-net-worth individuals in complex and strategic tax disputes.

The firm is particularly recognized for its expertise in tax litigation, transfer pricing, international taxation, tax credits and indirect taxes, as well as its regular representation before Canadian federal and provincial courts.

This opportunity is suited to a professional looking to grow within a highly specialized environment offering significant autonomy, direct client exposure and involvement in major national and international tax matters.

The Role

As a Tax Litigation Lawyer, you will work on complex matters involving tax audits, objections, litigation proceedings and strategic disputes with Canadian tax authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Advise businesses, multinational corporations and individuals on complex tax disputes
  • Represent clients in tax audits, objections and litigation proceedings
  • Appear before the Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court and other relevant tribunals
  • Participate in matters involving transfer pricing, tax credits, indirect taxes and international taxation
  • Develop litigation strategies tailored to clients’ tax and business objectives
  • Participate in competent authority requests, mutual agreement procedures and advance pricing arrangements
  • Draft pleadings, legal opinions and strategic representations
  • Collaborate with tax planning teams and other specialized advisors
  • Collaborate with other firm professionals on multidisciplinary mandates
  • Contribute to the growth and visibility of the practice

Ideal Profile

  • Member in good standing of the Québec Bar
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in tax litigation
  • Significant experience before courts and tax authorities
  • Strong interest in complex and strategic tax matters
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and advocacy skills
  • Solid understanding of corporate and international taxation
  • Ability to manage complex matters autonomously and rigorously
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset, strategic judgment and commitment to excellence
  • Bilingualism in French and English
